Bland Business Names Are a Branding Problem

Stop Naming Your Business Like This (Please)

I was contacted recently by someone looking for a new website — and they’d come up with yet another painfully bland business name. Something along the lines of XYZ Contracting.

I know that because… I can’t remember what it actually was. And that’s the problem.

Your business name is often the very first point of contact someone has with your business. Before your logo. Before your website. Before they’ve seen your ute, your uniform, or your work.

It’s the name they hear in a word-of-mouth recommendation.
The name that shows up in Google.
The name that flashes past them on Facebook while they’re doom-scrolling at 9pm.

And if names didn’t matter, you’d be happy calling yourself Rockhampton’s Dodgiest Electrician.

But you wouldn’t.
Because names do matter.

Now look — if your goal is to be bland and instantly forgettable, then XYZ PlumbingABC Group, or QWE Pty Ltd might be exactly what you’re after.

But I’m going to assume that’s not the plan.

If you want to stand out, be remembered, and actually give people something to latch onto, then it might be time to move past the three-letter acronyms.

And if you’re stuck?
I know a bloke with a beard and a collection of bright shirts who’s happy to help.
