Get your marketing ducks in a row

The tradie’s guide to making the most of a rainy day.

The alarm goes off… you stretch… then listen… “#!$@ RAIN!”

You don’t get paid when it rains and you can’t work onsite.

Don’t throw in the trowel (bricky pun intended).

When you can’t get to a job site, spend your time efficiently by doing some simple marketing to get your phone ringing when the sun shows its face again.

Check out these ideas. You can even do the first one before getting out of bed!

Check your website’s ranking

Grab your mobile (off your bedside table) and do a search for your business type on Google.

If you are a plumber, you might consider searching “plumber rockhampton” as an example… or maybe also “roof repairs rockhampton”

Think like your customer would, what would they be searching for?

Where does your business rank in the search results? Does your business name appear in the top three? If not, you might like to consider improving your rankings via SEO or Google Adwords Advertising.

Dry off your website

Instead of being out on site with your steel caps filled with muddy water, and your socks squishing in your shoes, take this opportunity to have an honest look at your website.

Step into your customer’s shoes (or gumboots) and really look through your website from their point of view.

How would you react to your own website if you saw it for the first time?

Is your phone number and contact information easy to find?

View your website on both your desktop and on your mobile devices. Does it look good and work properly on all platforms? Check here to see if your website is mobile responsive.

Get under your competitors umbrella

How does your website stack up compared to your competitors?

While you’re looking at your own site on the internet, take the time to have a good look around your competitors websites too. After all, your prospective customers do!

Does your signage looking gloomy?

Is your signage as dull as the weather?

The quality of your signage impacts on how prospective customers will perceive the quality of your business.

What’s the signage like on the side of your ute. Does it positively reflect your quality of service?
Is it peeling or faded? Is your phone number clearly visible from a distance?

Connect with your customers

The sky may be gloomy but your day doesn’t have to be.
We live in an age where we are lucky to access the world from the comfort of our homes. Send out a newsletter, blog, post on social media – whatever your customer connects with.

Is your inbox overflowing?

Clear the inbox, get rid of flagged items, file important messages and empty the trash.

Follow up all leads and outstanding messages. Let no prospect remain unanswered.

Get stationery

We mean the printed kind, not the kind where you lie flat out on the couch.

Check your stocks of your business cards, letterheads and invoices etc. A rainy day is a great time to order more.

Consider promotional flyers – contact someone like us to design and print some flyers to place into the letterboxes of neighbours near where you are currently working as a means of drumming up extra business.

The outlook is promising

Don’t let the rain dampen your spirits, or dampen your business productivity.

Rather than getting frustrated, consider your marketing. A lot can be accomplished for your business without getting drenched in the process.

If all else fails … take a nap or watch that funny video on You Tube … sometimes you just deserve a break!
