It is with much pride that we are pleased to announce Almost Anything has been selected to represent Australia by designing one of the first websites for the newly created “Intergalactic Web” – also known as the “InterWeb” or “IW” for short.
Working as part of a world-wide consortium of 42 hand selected design and development agencies, Almost Anything will be responsible for the development of Australia’s contribution to the IW as it reaches out to connect with who (or what) ever may be out there.
There have been many discussions about the future of the Worldwide Web and what form it will take. This new project, funded in part by NASA, believes the evolution of the internet lies outside our solar system. Imagine a Universal Wikipedia – the first true Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Thus the idea for the InterWeb was born.
What is the InterWeb and how does it work?

For many decades NASA and other space agencies have been sending satellites and probes into space for the purposes of exploration. Starting with the Voyager 1 in 1977, concurrent launches have created a daisy chain of devices throughout space – all receiving and broadcasting information.
This effectively creates a giant wireless network floating through space. This is the backbone of the IW. As each probe reaches further into space – new satellites are launched extending the chain allowing the network to grow – whilst also enabling continued content updates from back on earth.
Why was Almost Anything Chosen?
IW Project leader – Dr. W.E Fuldew said “Technology has made great strides in connecting all corners of planet Earth – we dreamed of something bigger. Frankly we got tired of waiting for aliens to contact us to share knowledge so we thought we’d take the first step.”
When asked why Almost Anything had been chosen as the Australian representative Dr Fuldew had this to say: “You don’t have to be Vulcan to see that Almost Anything was the logical choice. They have been turning out both beautifully designed and user friendly websites for many years. The Rockhampton based team’s down to earth attitude displayed real out of this world potential!”
Jason Foss, one of the Partners of Almost Anything said; “We couldn’t be happier to have been selected for this project. We have always tried to push the boundaries of design and now we get to do it on an intergalactic stage. As both Star Wars and Trek fans we’re excited to reach galaxies far far away as our site boldly goes where no site has gone before.”
Technical and content information about this and the other IW sites will be released later this month.
Google already supports the InterWeb with it’s Universal Analytics platform so when contact is made we’ll know exactly which planet it’s coming from (and what iPhone they are using).
Almost Anything NEEDS YOU!
Whilst Almost Anything has been selected to design and develop the site – it’s content will be shaped by the residents of Australia. That’s you guys…
Stuart Harcourt, one of Almost Anything’s Creative Directors had this to say; “Almost Anything has rich history of creative ideas and innovative thinking – but we’re representing Australia here and it would be rude not to ask it’s people what they want to see on the site. Personally i’m hoping my epic recipe for cheese on toast makes the cut – after all I don’t care how many tentacles you have – that’s some good eating.”
Above and beyond the humble jaffle – we want your ideas for content. Using the form below please suggest something to go onto the website. The idea can be as random as you like. The best ideas will be incorporated into the site.
Don’t forget to include your name and location so we can credit your idea. You never know future generations of Saturn based gaseous lifeforms may be inspired by your musings and pay us a visit.
